Pam Plesh Weigand, Owner and President of Krown Employment has the unique quality of being proactive and having the ability to change any business model as required by the client. In 1993, Pam was hired by Crown Services, a Midwest staffing company, to open a branch operation from scratch meaning no staff in the office or in the field, no office, furniture, phones or clients. Over the next 19 years, she partnered with businesses in staffing for Administrative, Call Center, Food Production, Hospital, Hospitality, IT, Management, Manufacturing, Mortgage and Warehouse positions. These positions were in the greater Pittsburgh area and suburbs as well as, New Jersey, Virginia and North Carolina. While the majority of the positions were Temporary to Hire, Crown also provided Flexible and Seasonal Staffing, as well as, Direct Hire and Payroll Servicing. “It is because of my experience at Crown that I was able to start Krown Employment Services from scratch within 6 weeks,” says Pam. “In 2013, I founded and opened Krown Employment Services and once again I had no office, no field or office staff, no clients, no phones or furniture, but this time I had great experience of the staffing industry, knew how to get clients and applicants and was able to use many of the vendors from my previous position.”

However, Pam soon found out that in the staffing industry the challenges change dependent on 4 cycles “have people/have jobs, have people/no jobs, no people/have jobs, no people/no jobs and to move through these cycles successfully, you must be cognizant of what is going on in the employment industry and/or specific industries,” says Pam. “Throughout my staffing career I have had varied amounts of staff in the office and in the field. Because of the amount of time spend with both sets of employees; how you mentor each group is different but the issues that stand out for both is honesty, integrity and a strong work ethic.”

The company is constantly recruiting employees and testing the employees for the skills required. Krown’s tag line is “We Change People’s Lives” and that is not just for their employee lives, but also the business partners live. “We eliminate stress for our clients finding the appropriate candidate through individual testing, personal interview, checking candidates work history and background and matching skill sets to the desired position skills required. The client is presented with a qualified candidate,” says Pam.

With regard to what is in store for Krown Employment Services moving forward- “with the Covid-19 pandemic, business has changed for all including the Krown and the staffing industry”. So, while Pam started and opened a branch operation for a mid-west staffing service in 1993, founded and opened Krown Employment Services in 2013, “I am now looking at Krown Employment Services as a new startup operation. With that said, I am being proactive in what industries I will target and how Krown Employment Services can best service our existing, old and new business partners,” she adds.

Because of COVID-19, some of the industries no longer are utilizing staffing services. This is specifically why I indicated businesses need to be proactive and have the ability to change. An important part of lasting in the staffing industry is the ability to have a diverse client base so that when one industry slows down, your entire business is not affected. This is what has allowed Krown Employment Services to survive throughout the years and the current pandemic.

Krown Employment Services is certified as a National Women’s Business Enterprise and Women Owned Small Business through Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. Pam is a member of Society for Human Resource Management and Pittsburgh Human Resource Association.IE
